Jeep asserts its Grand Cherokee model is the most-awarded SUV ever. What makes the Grand Cherokee so worthy of accolades? The experts atMotor Biscuit attribute the success of this model to a few things — like its consistently high driver satisfaction rating over the years, its ability to combine comfort with capability and the wide variety of trim levels available. To be more exact, there are at least 10 trims available for theGrand Cherokee with three different powertrain options.

Considering adding this jack of all trades to your daily drive? Here is our Jeep Grand Cherokee Buyer’s guide to provide some key information on this versatile SUV.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trim Levels

As we mentioned earlier, one of the biggest strengths of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is it’s known for being very customizable. Part of the reason drivers can tailor this SUV to their needs so well is because there are a lot of different trims from which to choose. Here is a brief description of just some of those trim options.

 Laredo E

The starting trim level comes standard with a 3.6L V6 engine, cloth seats, a seven-inch infotainment display and 18-inch wheels. The starting MSRP is $35,460.

Laredo X

Opting for the Laredo X adds into the mix additional comfort features, like heated suede seats and an 8.4-inch infotainment display with navigation. The starting MSRP is $39,205.

 Limited

The Limited introduces leather-trimmed bucket seats, a power sunroof and more. The starting MSRP is $41,805.

 Limited X

Choosing the Limited X adds 20-inch wheels and glossy black exterior touches. The starting MSRP is $46,655.

Trailhawk

This trim level is the most geared toward off-roading, with an electronic limited slip differential rear axle, the Quadra-Trac II four-wheel drive and Selec-Train terrain management systems, air suspension and 18-inch off-road wheels. The starting MSRP is $47,060.

 Overland

The Overland caters more toward luxury than off-road performance, offering Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, 20-inch aluminum wheels and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The starting MSRP is $48,455.

 High Altitude

With this trim level, drivers access a standard nine-speaker Alpine sound system, seats trimmed in Nappa leather, active noise control and parallel and perpendicular park assist. The starting MSRP is $51,390.

 Summit

The Summit features a 19-speaker audio system and the addition of luxury materials throughout the cabin. The starting MSRP is $54,870.

 SRT

A 6.4L V8 engine comes standard with the SRT trim, fetching 475 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. Like the Trailhawk, it also utilizes Quadra-Trac 4WD and Selec-Trac terrain management, as well as active suspension damping. The interior features special SRT leather and perforated suede seats. The MSRP starts at $71,240.

 Trackhawk

This trim builds on the 6.4L V8 engine by introducing a supercharged edition — capable of 707 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque. The MSRP starts at $90,025.

Introducing a Third Row: Grand Cherokee L

Drivers who need to accommodate more than five people will want to check out the Grand Cherokee L. This new model adds a third row of seats, bumping the carrying capacity up to seven passengers. It also features six trim levels of its own.

Some features remain similar between the two-row and three-row Grand Cherokees — like the option of the 3.6L V6 engine or the 5.7L V8 engines. Others differ quite a bit, like the exterior appearance on the L — which Motor Trend describes as a combination between the regular Grand Cherokee and the upscale Wagoneer; it’s both longer and larger than the original.

This Jeep Grand Cherokee buyer’s guide scratches the surface on what this SUV has to offer by trim level and model. Still, there’s no substitute for checking out the different trims yourself to get a better idea of how each one looks and feels before making a decision.
