New surveillance video released in connection with deadly I-95 shooting

Miami-Dade County, Florida – Miami-Dade Police released a new video on Thursday showing a vehicle believed to have been involved in the deadly shootings that occurred last year on Interstate 95.

Police hope the video will create a new lead in the shooting that killed Melissa Gonzales.

“My plea to you today is not as a detective, not as a member of law enforcement, or even as a member of the Miami-Dade Police-it’s a member of humanity,” Detective Juan Segovia said Thursday. At a press conference with the victim’s family.

The chief investigator is still working to find out who shot and killed Gonzales a year ago.

Gonzales was driving south on I-95 near the Northwest 79th Street exit at around 8:30 pm on January 3, 2020, officials said. I’m sitting in the passenger seat.

Segovia still believes that the bullet came from a shooting at 83 Northwest Street, which runs parallel to I-95, on a nearby surface street.

A video released on Thursday shows a car taking off at high speed on the road after shooting.

“At the beginning of the shot, you’ll see someone jumping into the car,” Segovia said. “And you’ll see the car speeding off fast. Maybe it stirs something, maybe someone will recognize it.”

For Gonzales’ mom, Sheila Nunez and her boyfriend, the pain of her loss is amplified by the lack of arrest.

Gonzales was just 22 when the shooting took place. She just graduated from Florida International University and was an ambitious lawyer.

There is currently a $ 7,000 reward for information that could lead to arrest.
