“Summer has arrived. There is no better way to get cool and outdoors than to visit New York City’s 14 miles of beautiful beaches,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “We encourage all New Yorkers to take their friends and family to the beach and have a good time in the sun. This summer, to be safe in and around the water and when there are guards. Don’t forget to swim only in. Make together. Make sure this is a safe and enjoyable season for all beach goers. “
City Beach spans a total of 14 miles and includes Orchard Beach in Bronx. Brooklyn’s Coney Island and Manhattan Beach. Rockaway Beach in Queens. Midland Beach, South Beach, Cedar Grove Beach, Wolfe’s Pond Beach on Staten Island.
This summer, NYC Parks will re-install sunscreen dispensers and offer free SPF 30 sunscreens on all beaches. Dispensers are located in or near all beach toilets.
As part of Parks’ 2022 water safety campaign, advertisements have been placed throughout the city to remind patrons of the importance of swimming only in designated areas during lifeguard hours.
Designed by Parks, this campaign is aimed at teens and parents and is now available on English and Spanish radio, bus shelters, taxi TV, New York City Links, and Parks Beach in the city. You can see it on social media platforms.
The Department of Health is responsible for beach health and safety monitoring and regular water quality monitoring for all beaches.
The agency regularly tests the water quality near the beaches in the city to make sure it is safe for swimming.
Contamination of water by excessive rainwater, sewage, or other pollution can pose a health risk to swimmers and beach goers. If necessary, easy-to-read water quality recommendations and closure signs will be posted on the beach to ensure that all beach fans are aware of their health or safety risks.
