New York on the verge of hitting the dangerous 14-year high in shooting

New York (WABC)-New York City is about to hit a dangerous 14-year high in shooting this year.

New York Police Department Commissioner Dermot Shea said New Yorkers should stop and pause due to increased gun violence.

“There were nine shootings in New York yesterday, but last year it was a full week. In Brooklyn, FedEx drivers were in uniform,” Shea said. “All the indicators we see are worrisome.”

He said police had arrested the gun, but a few days later the suspect was released from detention and returned to the streets.

He said increased violence may be associated with COVID-19.

“My fear is that this is certainly a COVID. This is a unique year, but in my expert opinion, COVID is not the end of everything,” Shea said. Says. “We still need to address some of these issues we are seeing.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said what was happening in the city was the “worst case.”

“The absolute worst of what’s happening this year. There’s nothing like this in New York’s history so far. I want to be clear,” said De Blasio. “A major health crisis, the deaths of tens of thousands of people, overwhelming hospitals, economic closures, school closures, place of worship closures, the lack of regular mooring of society, the crisis of social justice all at once I mean, I think this is different from what we have seen in our history and different from what we see again in our lives. In that atmosphere we are violent. We saw an increase, which is clearly being addressed as we are re-adhering the situation together again, we are seeing more connections between the police and the community through the local police , We are seeing more gun arrests. We are entering a new year with a new approach that we think will help us turn the tide. “

The police secretary said he had daily strategic sessions on this topic.

“The highest shot in 14 years-we learned how to reduce imprisonment and how to reduce shooting, which was upset this year,” Shea said. “There’s a lot to do to get it back.”

As of Monday, the city recorded more than 1,700 victims of gun violence, almost double the number of the same period last year.
