One dead and one injured in Florida’s two-day lobster mini-season

Islamorada, Florida — When the Florida lobster mini-season began, one diver died and another man was injured in another incident.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that a diver died early Wednesday while preparing to harvest spiny lobster from the Florida Keys.

Another man was airlifted from under the key to a Miami hospital after the boat’s propeller struck his leg.

Authorities have not released details and have not identified the victim. The popular two-day spiny lobster event attracts thousands of people to Keys every July. Some people use the internet, others snorkel to push the limits.
