Passaic Fire: Firefighters Prevent Large Fires from Reaching Chlorine at a Chemical Factory in New Jersey

Passaic, NJ (WABC)-Firefighters were able to protect the flames from a large fire in an industrial zone away from the main chemical plant in Passaic, NJ.

A large chemical fire in New Jersey has released smoke into the air.

The 11 alarm fire broke out at the Majestic Industries Warehouse on Pasake Street just before 9 pm.

The company manufactures furniture for games and hospitality for casinos and Bingo Halls, and is connected to chlorine makers. Authorities say the major chlorine plants have not been affected by the fire.

Firefighters say the main building where the fire broke out was partially collapsed.

Mayor Hector Lola is asking all the inhabitants of Passaic to keep the windows closed and stay inside because of the dangerous fire.

According to Lola, from Pasek Road, the street is cut off from Pasek Road, past Columbia Road and all the way to Main Avenue. Authorities say there is no need to evacuate from surrounding buildings.

On Friday night, 11 ladder companies, 32 engines, and 200 firefighters broke out in the Passaic, Bergen, and Essex counties. Authorities are trying to take the fireboat to the scene.

A firefighter was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
