Candlelight memorial service for 21-year-old father who died at Christmas

jacksonville, florida – The Justice Coalition, a victim advocacy group, will join forces with the family of 21-year-old Baron Dixon to host a candlelit memorial service in his memory Friday night.

Dixon was found shot dead near the intersection of Normandy Boulevard and Chaffee Street. Christmas day.

No arrests have been made in this incident.

Dixon’s mother, Gina Gibbs, said the weeks and months without her son were unbearable.

“He was my baby. He loved helping people,” Gibbs said. “You always see him holding a baby in his hands. His son’s biggest goal in life was to be a good father.”

His child, 20-month-old Baron Dixon Jr., has to grow up without a father.

Dixon was shot dead in his car on Christmas Day.

Gibbs said his son is trying to start his own business so he can send his fiancée, Hayley Barnhill, to nursing school.

Dixon was also keen on fixing cars. In fact, she said that’s what he was doing when he was killed: She said he was looking to buy a car to fix and sell later.

“He was wearing his Christmas pajamas,” Gibbs said. “He had just picked up his car and was coming back for dinner. He’s almost finished his Christmas dinner.”

Instead, the unthinkable happened and life changed in an instant. Barnhill said Christmas celebrations will never be the same.

“We can’t have a normal Christmas anymore,” Barnhill said. “I need to explain to Junior how Baron was murdered at Christmas and why it will never be the same again.”

Dixon’s family says he was never the type to get into trouble, and never got into trouble. They described him as a peacemaker and said he was really at a loss as to why this happened.

Gibbs also shared a heartfelt plea.

“My son was not involved in any of that. He would dissuade anyone from something like that,” Gibbs said. We need someone to help us speak up Stop being afraid to speak up and do the right thing Someone has the courage to do the right thing now mosquito?”

A candlelit vigil is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 pm at 5724 Ramona Blvd. at the ministry building.

The public is invited there and encouraged to participate.

Anyone with information regarding the murder of Baron Dixon is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500. He can also call CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
