The City of Cocoa announced that it is now accepting applications for the UpStart Cocoa Business Development program. This includes forgiven loans of up to $10,000 for small businesses in the city that meet certain requirements.

Cocoa launched the program last year with the goal of promoting minority- and women-owned small businesses in the city. Last year, his first small business, Soul Food Restaurant, met all the requirements and through the program he received a loan of $7,500 and is now doing well. Due to the strong performance of Chef’s Kitchen, the city expanded the program this year to allow more businesses. He has taken in five local businesses where previously he had only one. Two of the businesses must be located within the Diamond Square district of Cocoa. This includes the area bounded by Pineda Street to the west, School Street to the north, Florida East Coast Railroad to the east, and Rosa L. Jones Drive to the south.
