Probably the first orbital starship flight in March

SpaceX’s first orbital Starship SN20 was stacked on top of a giant Super Heavy Booster 4 on February 10, 2022 at the company’s Star Base facility near Bocachica Village in southern Texas.

SpaceX’s Elon Musk said Thursday that the first orbital flight of his towering Starship, the world’s most powerful rocket ever manufactured, may come in a month or two.

He anticipates failure, but he is confident that Starship will be on track by the end of this year.

Musk provided his first major starship update in more than two years while standing beside a 390-foot (119-meter) rocket at SpaceX’s Texas Spaceport. He urged the night crowd to “make this a reality!”

“This is really some wild stuff here,” he said. “In fact, it’s hard to believe it’s real.”

NASA plans to land astronauts on the Moon as early as 2025, using a fully reusable Starship. Meanwhile, Musk wants to deploy a fleet of starships to create a city on Mars, carrying equipment and people.

For now, the first flight will carry musk Internet satelliteTo the orbit, called Starlink.

“Probably there are some bumps on the road, but we want to solve them. Satellite mission Test the mission before embarking people on board, “he said.

SpaceX’s Super Heavy First Stage Booster hasn’t exploded yet. However, the futuristic bullet-shaped steel starship sits on top and acts as an upper tier, successfully launching and landing in May last year after a series of spectacular explosions. The rocket ship soared over 6 miles (10 kilometers).

SpaceX is waiting for approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before it goes into orbit, the next stage of starship. Musk expects a go-ahead in March and said rockets should be able to fly by then. He added that it would put the launch in the next few months.

If the FAA requested more information about potential environmental impacts and proceedings, Musk said the Starship launch could move to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. However, he said it would delay the first orbital launch by more than half a year.

The full-size starship is huge, taller than NASA’s past and present lunar rockets, and has about twice the lift-off thrust.

In addition to Florida’s Cape Canaveral and the southern tip of Texas near Bocachica, Starship could eventually be launched from a sea platform that floats anywhere in the world, Musk said. He envisions a three-day Starship launch (“quick reusability”) with a replenishment station in space for longer destinations like Mars. He said the first replenishment test could be done by the end of next year.

Musk estimates that the cost of launching a Starship could be less than $ 10 million. Perhaps even at high speeds, it can cost millions of dollars and lower prices. He called it “crazy low” and “ridiculously good” by current space standards.

Starship already has one individual customer. A Japanese entrepreneur planning to buy a plane around the moon and take 12 artists. Musk hinted that there are others who are interested in buying travel, and said future announcements would come.

To date, SpaceX has used much smaller Falcon rockets to launch satellites and launch cargo to astronauts and NASA’s International Space Station. The first private flight purchased by a millionaire was last September. The other will appear at the end of March. This is a space station with three businessmen paying $ 55 million per person.
