Residents of Island Point Apartments are still in the dark as management works to restore power.

jacksonville, florida – Residents of Island Point Apartments continue to wait for power to be restored after Tropical Storm Nicole brought massive flooding and fires last Thursday.

According to one tenant, the flooding caused the meter box to need to be replaced. A JEA spokesperson told News4JAX that all work to power the building has been completed.

Island Pointe Apartments management told News4JAX that the majority of tenants have power restored but are waiting for an electrician to fix some equipment. According to the JEA, once equipment has been repaired, an inspection must be completed by a certified engineer before power can be fully restored.

Laura Woodle said one of the empty power meter slots belongs to her unit.

“It’s cold now and it was very cold last night. I wake up at 4:30 in the morning to go to work. Who wants to wake up at 4:30 in the morning and take a cold shower?” Woodle said.

Woodle said he had run out of food in his fridge and freezer and was forced to charge his cell phone in his car. She also said she had not been able to get a clear answer from the apartment complex management about when power would be restored.

“They told us to get a hotel room and claim the rental insurance to get the money back.” , I don’t have the money to file a claim to get it back. I paid them the rent and paid the JEA.”

As of Monday afternoon, the power meter had not been replaced and an electrician had not arrived, Woodle said.
