Karl Nashib, the defensive end of the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday, became the first active NFL player to play as gay.
Nashib released the news on Instagram and didn’t do it to get attention, but said, “I think expression and visibility are very important.”
Nashib also said in a short video message that he has donated $ 100,000 to the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization aimed at preventing LGBTQ youth suicide.
Nashib is a sixth-year professional drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of Pennsylvania State University in 2016. He played two seasons at Browns and two seasons at Tampa Bay before joining the Raiders in 2020.
