So far, little is known about this group, as only three strains belonging to this group have been isolated. To isolate the new strain, Dr. Takemura first cultivated a sample taken from a pond in Rizokai Park and added it to the culture of Verma Moeva. After growing Verma Moeva for several days, he extracted Noda 2021 from it and analyzed its genetic material.

“The Noda 2021 strain was found to be composed of 1,222,284 base pairs with a guanine and cytosine (GC) content of approximately 38.3% and 1,287 genes. Next, a 16S rRNA molecular phylogenetic analysis of this strain was performed. By the way, other Candidatusphylum Dependentiae stock Dr. Takemura described it as the “piriformis muscle” that had been isolated so far, and when he examined infected Vermamoeva cells under an electron microscope, he discovered that Noda2021 may show a connected cell structure within the host cell. “This finding is evidence that the ponds on the Noda campus are microbiologically diverse and ecologically stimulating,” says Dr. Takemura. This is the first time such a strain has been isolated in Japan.

The isolation of this new strain of Candidatus phylum Dependentiae must further enhance our understanding of this curious bacterial population. According to Dr. Takemura, “Since this bacterium is located in the border area between giant viruses and microorganisms, we hope to provide some useful and unique information about the origin and ecological position of both groups. doing.”
