When Peter Kreuziger first set foot in the building, he became his first restaurant, Bon Appétit. He wanted to turn right. “The place was very devastated,” Peter said.

However, his business partner Karl Heintree Dollar could understand the possibility and they bought the property. That was 45 years ago.

Through the Bon Appétit Group, Peter and Karl own about 25 storefronts, honeymoon and Karadesi Islands wedding halls, snack bars and restaurants in Dunedin (Cafe Al Fresco). They employ more than 250 people.

Unfortunately, all businesses owned by Peter and Karl were dramatically affected by the recession caused by the pandemic. In March, they had to shut everything down and fire more than 200 people.

However, on May 4, they resumed with the help of the Federal Paycheck Protection Program and the Achieva Credit Union.

Peter and Karl have had banks in the same big bank since they bought their first building in Dunedin. But when loans became available through the Paycheck Protection Program, banks said they couldn’t help. “I said,’Are you kidding me?'” Peter said. “‘How many other clients have 45 years of history?'”

The contact information for the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce recommended Achieva. The next day, the company’s managers contacted Achieva’s representatives, who immediately filed an application for PPP funding. “The next call I received said someone said,’You have been approved, come to pick up your money,'” Peter said.

He then moved all his business accounts to Achieva. “It’s really different from a bank,” he said. “Akieba’s attitude and everything is different. People are very sincere and kind.”

Whatever comes next in 2021, Peter and Karl are ready-they know that their business is essential in their own way. “We have a’happy’business,” Peter said. “What we do every day is to make people happy. A dinner for two, a wedding reception. Anything that makes people feel good.”
