Republican David Perdue concedes to Jon Ossoff in Georgia outflow – NBC4 Washington

Democratic rule in the US Senate came to fruition on Friday after Georgian Republican David Perdue admitted to fleeing Democrat Jon Ossoff.

The day before, Republican Kelly Loeffler made concessions to Democrat Rafael Warnock in another Georgia Senate election.

“I would like to congratulate the Democrats and opponents in this final vote,” Padhu said in a statement thanking his supporters before admitting he had been defeated in the elections on Tuesday.

After their controversial race, characterized by sharp personal attacks, Padhu’s statement did not mention Osov by name.

A spokesman for Osov’s campaign said the Democrats had not received a call from Padu and learned of his concessions from media reports.

Victory means that 33-year-old Osov will be the youngest member of the US Senate and the first Jewish Senator in the state.

Padu, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was first elected to the Senate in 2014. He led Osov by about 88,000 votes in the November general election, but failed to exceed the 50% needed to avoid a spill.

When the two Georgia Senate contests went into overtime, Osov was boosted by the national influence of the race and Trump’s continued false attacks on election results.

The victory of Osov and Warnock has revolutionized the political situation in Georgia, which has been dominated by the Republicans for many years. President-elect Joe Biden has been the first Democratic presidential candidate to support the state since 1992 after his victory in November.

Osov and Warnock are formally pledged after the election results are proven. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger needs to prove the results by 22 January, but it can be done sooner.

The Democratic victory in Georgia will result in a 50-50 split in the Senate and a tiebreaker vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.
