Scottish islanders save a couple’s wedding in the United States after losing their luggage | Scotland

It was a completely imperfect wedding that Scotland’s Skye gained an international reputation for kindness.

Amanda and Paul Riesel flew over 4,000 miles from Orlando. FloridaGet married on Skye, Highland.

It was a wedding two years before the plan and cost more than £ 12,000 to the school lunch supervisor and her groom.

But after the plane was aimed at Philadelphia, their dreams began to collapse. This was a detour that led to a three-day delay, with the couple stuck at another airport along the way. Paul said: It was late, late, late. “

The exhausted couple arrived at Sky around 11:00 pm on Monday the night before their wedding, but noticed that they had all their luggage gone.

There were no wedding dresses or suits and they were ready to cancel the wedding. “She didn’t know she didn’t receive her luggage until she arrived in Inverness,” said Amanda, who was lucky enough to carry her wedding ring and flowers in her baggage. She said, “I arrived at the luggage carousel and confirmed that it was completely empty and there were no bags. I realized I had to cancel and there was nothing else I could do.”

But they thought without the determination of local photographer Rosie Woodhouse and the kindness of the islanders. “I told them I was confident I could do this job,” Woodhouse said. “Sky is a great place.”

Just before midnight on Monday, Woodhouse posted an appeal on the Sky social media site. By 7:30 am on Tuesday, she was flooded with offers of help. By 10 am, Amanda had eight wedding dresses of her size to choose from, and Paul had her complete quilt set.

Amanda managed to procure cosmetics from a local chemist, and Woodhouse gave the couple home-cooked food at her home.

“Rosie did all this. I was unaware of all the work done in the background,” Amanda said. “When people reacted in the middle of the night, a woman took off her ordinary clothes and helped. We woke up to this beautiful thing tuned for us. Her patience. Thanks to the power we got married.

“Everyone Rosie introduced us to and helped us will have a place in our hearts forever,” she added. “The Sky people will be famous in Orlando because they tell people who hear that our love was solidified on a completely imperfect wedding day. How grateful we are. There are never enough words to describe what you are doing. “

Amanda said she must have helped her on a happy day because she wore the dress of a local school lunch supervisor. “Teresa, the local Broadford primary dinner lady, is the owner of my dress and I’m also the dinner lady going home,” she said. “Wearing it made even more sense to me, knowing that it came from someone who loves and feeds her students as much as I do.”
