Police still do not know exactly what motivated the attack, but a series of silence protesters had signs indicating support for the victims’ Guying Ma family and efforts to thwart Asian hatred.

A 61-year-old woman who was assaulted on Friday morning was cleaning the sidewalk outside his home in Jackson Heights.

Investigators have charged 33-year-old Elizaur Perez with assault and harassment.

It is not clear if the system will release Perez before the victim recovers in the hospital.
