Storm in New Jersey: A tornado has made landfall near Jackson Township, the National Weather Service says.Local government declares disaster emergency
Jackson Township, New Jersey (WABC) — The National Weather Service determined that the tornado landed near Jackson Township, New Jersey during Saturday’s storm.
Local authorities declared a disaster emergency on Sunday as residents began clearing debris.
Six Flags Great Adventures and Safaris will be closed until Wednesday to ensure the safety of our employees and guests.
In the midst of Saturday’s tornado, trees were pulled to the ground and strong winds dragged power lines down.
A huge tree fell on the house when the storm passed. No one was injured.
This is the same storm system that left a trail of destruction in the Midwest.
Neighbor Jordan Charles and her fiancé watched from the patio as the storm passed.
“Within a few minutes the sky was pitch black and I could barely see the house next door. The windows started shaking,” Charles said.
Within seconds I got an alert, grabbed my flashlight and went to the basement as fast as I could.
There were also reports of damage in other parts of Howell Township. A storm knocked trees to the ground and one partially blocked the road.
Meanwhile, in Toms River, giant storm clouds highlight a tornado forming in Ocean County.
Power lines were knocked down by strong winds, leaving many customers in the dark.
Japanese Communist Party&L reports that approximately 21,000 customers are without power. There have been 5,940 reported power outages in Monmouth County and 14,233 in Ocean County.
“I was traumatized and petrified. I didn’t know what was going to happen, especially since what happened in Mississippi,” Charles said.
