Soon to resume: The ER at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital was closed due to a shortage of nursing staff due to mandatory vaccines.

Long Beach, Long Island (WABC)-Governor Kathy Hokul announced on Thursday plans to reopen the Long Island Hospital, which was temporarily closed earlier this week due to a shortage of nursing staff.

The staff shortage at Mount Sinai South Nasso was the result of the New York Vaccine Directive.

Officials said on Monday that all other options had been exhausted before the decision to close the ER was made that afternoon.

Instead, patients in need of emergency care were taken to the main campus of the hospital on the oceanside. It is about 5 miles away and can take 25 minutes to reach the traffic. Ambulances are always located in the ambulance during the closure period.

Hochul said the hospital will resume the Long Beach Emergency Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 7 am on Friday.

“As your governor, I assure you that the state will do everything we can to reduce stress on hospitals and emergency medical facilities-so medical facilities, when you are struggling with me. Keep alerting us, “Hochul said. “Thanks to Mount Sinai South Nassau and local community partners for working with us to restore ER services and continue to provide quality care to Nassau County residents. The Ministry of Health is in hospitals and locals. We will work closely with our officials to monitor and troubleshoot potential staff shortage issues in the future. “

Hospital officials previously ordered the closure to suspend all staff working under a temporary religious exemption that did not show evidence of at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine or a valid medical exemption. Said that it was the result of compliance with.

Over 99% of Mount Sinai South Nasso staff are fully vaccinated and do not include those seeking religious or medical exemptions.

It is the only emergency facility on Long Beach, serving approximately 10,000 people each year. It opened in 2015 after Superstorm Sandy essentially destroyed the Long Beach Medical Center.
