Captain Dave Edins of Merritt Island, through his many years of experience as a fishing guide, I’m not sure what to catch...
It was recently revealed during a trip with client Brian Hartman, who was visiting from Minnesota. Eddins was equipped with a living nibe on a 15-pound test line with a more robust leader. He instructed Hartmann to cast towards the rocks along the north side of the Canaveral pier.
“We were looking for Snook and oversized red fish.. I never thought I would know what they did. “
Hartman made a big bite and started cranking a big pen spinning reel to set the hook. But when he brought the fish closer to the boat, Edins knew it was neither snook nor red.
Instead, Edins scooped a landing net around a 6-foot-long bright green and a very unfortunate moray eel.
“It’s not very common to catch moray eels, especially moray eels this big, in the harbor,” Edins said.
After taking a few simple pictures and being amazed by the eel’s powerful muscular body and grunts, Edins was able to gently bring the eel back into the water using a landing net.
“I carefully pushed her back to the side on the net. I didn’t want to get close to those teeth. She swam alive,” Edins reported.
Hartman was unable to land Snook or Red that day, but caught the limits of mangrove snappers and later caught ladyfish and spotted trout on the Banana River, Edines said.
It’s not a shark …:What sea monster was caught near the Kennedy Space Center?
Did you get the tartar sauce? :Groupers and redfish are biting anglers on the space coast.Snook season is just around the corner
There was good fishing for black drums up to 25 lbs and red fish up to 15 lbs. Natural bait and cut bait are used for the black drum. Trout fishing is a little slow. You can catch snooks in the lagoon along the coastline by hanging lures and jigs.
Marine weather forecasts require a stable easterly wind of up to 15 knots over the next few days. It will push the ocean to 3-4 feet almost every day. Sure, it’s still fishable, but small boats need to pay attention to changing circumstances. Sea bream fishing worked very well with a plump mangrove sea bream in 60-80 feet of water. You can also catch lane snappers. For mutton snappers, try shallow reefs and use ultra-long fluorocarbon readers with dead sardines. Wahoo was caught last weekend on a full moon morning.
Snooks can be caught in troughs using live baits or medium sized swim baits. Some of the snooks found in this zone will be within 28-32 inch slot sizes for harvest at the start of the September 1st season. Whiting and croaker caught in shrimp fragments, snooks, big jacks, or sharks.
Captain Grin Austin of Palm Bay’s Going Coastal Charter has guided customers to catch large Indo-Pacific fish in the range of £ 75-125 along the beach a few miles south of the cove. When the season begins on Wednesday, Snook, which is mostly too big to sustain, is staging in its usual place, the rocks just off the northern pier. Live croakers are attractive to these snooks, but if you need to release them, use circle hooks to ensure a healthier snook.
Indian River Lagoon
By the middle of the week, many anglers are looking for slot-sized snooks. These are along the mangrove coastline, around backyard canals, dock stakes, and near the Causeway coastline. Tarpons in the £ 15-25 range are still jumping in the lagoon near Merritt Island and Satellite Beach. Try using the small DOAT error Eyz in the root beer color. For some reason, Tarpon loves this lure. Jig it and sink it to the bottom, waiting for pickup as it sinks.
Water levels in all parts of the St. John’s system and other inland wetlands and lakes are high. Bass hunts in shallow water early in the morning and then moves into the deep sea to find cool temperatures late in the morning. Use a jig and a ripped crankbait to go deeper into the water column and bite.
