Students ask questions about the enforcement of Yuri Middle School’s dress code policy

Yuri, Florida – Students were suspended from Yuri Middle School after clashing with managers over the school dress code, News4Jax learned on Tuesday.

Alice Wagner, a sophomore in middle school, told News4Jax that the teacher had selected her for a costume that was considered too explicit. Specifically, Wagner said the teacher spoke about her body as she left the classroom.

“(The teacher) told me when I left the classroom,’I’m hanging out to show them to the whole world,'” Wagner said. “I went to the bathroom and came back and said,’I need to stop sexualizing a 14-year-old girl.’ I grabbed my stuff and withdrew from the situation.”

Mr Wagner said he went to the executive branch to call his parents, but was not allowed to call. She said the situation escalated into a violent exchange with the manager, resulting in a 10-day suspension.

Wagner and her mother Sarah admitted that the student explosion had crossed the line.

“So I don’t think it’s okay for her to talk to her teacher that way,” Sarah Wagner told News4Jax. “But I can understand why she got angry. She was basically sexually harassed by her teacher …. she apologized, she understood that she was wrong. “

The district refused to speak to News4Jax about Wagner’s suspension and said he had not commented on disciplinary matters involving individual students.
