The “barricade situation” that drew the FBI and other law enforcement officials to a US military base outside the capital on Sunday ended peacefully, officials said. Fort Belvoir Twitter account in northern Virginia.

Shortly before 1 p.m., the base tweeted that law enforcement, local police and the FBI responded “to the barricade situation” Sunday morning. No further comment can be made at this time,” the base tweeted.

At around 5:30 pm on Sunday, Fort Belvoir tweeted that the situation had ended peacefully and that one person had been taken into custody.

Fort Belvoir sits on approximately 8,800 acres along the Potomac River in Fairfax County, approximately 20 miles (32 km) south of Washington.

The base is home to several Army Commands, Army Reserve and Army National Guard elements, and nine Pentagon headquarters, according to the Pentagon’s website, which serves the military community. According to Fort Belvoir’s 2022 strategic plan, the facility will have 2,154 family residential districts and seven child and youth services facilities.
