The CIA has hired spies in all areas and launched a new recruiting site aimed at diversifying spy agencies.

Washington-In an effort to further diversify its ranks, the CIA launched a new website on Monday to find top-notch candidates who will bring a wide range of life experiences to the country’s best intelligence agencies.

The days when all American spies were white men who graduated from Ivy League schools are gone. The CIA Director is a woman, who leads all five branches of the institution, including the Department of Science, Technology, Operations and Digital Innovation.

However, despite the diversification of the CIA over the years, intelligence agencies are still lagging behind the federal workforce on behalf of the minority. With thousands of job seekers each year, the CIA wants to do more to help its workforce reflect national demographics.

The redesigned website has links to browse CIA jobs, including starting salaries and requirements, a section on working with agencies, and a streamlined application process.

“We’ve come a long way since we applied by simply mailing a letter stating’CIA, Washington DC’,” said CIA Director Gina Haspel, who joined the authorities in 1985. Intriguing talented Americans and giving them a sense of “the dynamic environment awaiting them here”.

Haspel has prioritized hiring since becoming the first female director in May 2018. Since then, the CIA has launched advertising for streaming services, launching Instagram accounts and online “onion sites.” This is an information provider and someone who accesses information that is more difficult to track.

Last year, the CIA nominated Ilka Rodriguez-Diaz, the first executive of Hispanic involvement. This is a veteran with over 30 years of experience in this institution. She first attended after attending a CIA job fair in New Jersey.

“The CIA has never been on my radar,” she wrote in a Miami Herald editorial after she got a job in October. “I didn’t think it fits the’profile’. After all, the spy I saw on TV was a male Anglo-Saxon Ivy Leaguer, not a New Jersey Latino. Still, I I asked my mother, an expert life coach, for advice. (What do I need to lose by going?) So I went to a employment briefing. As they say, the rest is history. . “

According to the Annual Demographics Report compiled by the Director of National Intelligence, 61% of intelligence experts in 2019 were men and 39% were women across more than 12 US espionage agencies, including the CIA.

In 2019, the number of minority professionals in the intelligence community increased from 26.2% to 26.5%. However, the report states that it is still less than 37% of the federal workforce and less than 37.4% of the private workforce.

The largest ethnic minority or ethnic group in all intelligence agencies, including the CIA, was black or African American at 12%, Hispanic at 7%, and Asian at 4%. Persons with disabilities make up 11.5% of the workforce of all US intelligence agencies, up 1 percentage point from the previous year.

“Despite all the challenges raised in 2020, it was an outstanding recruitment year for the CIA. Our next class is the third largest in 10 years and the most including people with disabilities since 2010. It represents a diverse pool of talent, “said CIA spokesman Nicole de Hay.

The Government Accountability Office’s report, submitted to the Parliamentary Commission in December, states that intelligence agencies as a whole need to take additional steps to increase diversity.

“For the past few years, intelligence agencies have demonstrated their commitment to diversity by taking steps to increase the proportion of women, racial or ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities,” the report said. .. “We’ve seen some progress in increasing this expression across the intelligence community, but the expression is below the equivalent benchmark.”
