Deputy sheriff retired in March, beginning a series of new JSO staff appointments

jacksonville, florida – Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Burgos is set to retire in March after 26 years with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and Sheriff TK Waters has announced his replacement and the series of changes that will accompany the change. Other appointments have been announced.

Burgos began his career as a patrol officer and has held all positions except sheriff throughout his long and illustrious career, Waters said in a news release announcing his planned retirement on March 3.

After being appointed deputy sheriff, Burgos became a regular at press conferences announcing the arrests of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office employees.

“Burgos’ keen mind and unwavering judgment have led multiple administrations during his tenure at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office,” Waters said. “Aide Burgos will be greatly missed in the day-to-day operations of this agency, but we all wish him well in his next chapter.”

Waters said the following staff appointments will be made at the JSO effective March 4.

  • Sean Caussy, currently Director of Investigations and Homeland Security, will be appointed Undersheriff.

  • Mark Romano, currently Director of Investigations, will be appointed Director of Investigations and Homeland Security.

  • Alan Parker, currently Assistant Chief of the Information Systems Management Section, will be appointed Chief of Investigations.

  • Police Lieutenant Eric Redgate is appointed Assistant Chief of the Information Systems Management Section.

Waters also said corrections lieutenant Nick Bliss will be appointed assistant chief of the Community Transition Center section beginning Tuesday.
