This week’s state COVID-19 positive rate

Tampa, Florida — The state released the latest COVID numbers from January 7th to January 13th, with positive rates declining from last week to this week.

“It may basically go beyond the true hump of this, at least in terms of daily cases,” said Dr. Thomas Unnash, a prominent USF health professor. That’s welcome news for epidemiologists and all of us. The positive rate for the state this week is 29%. This is down from 31% last week.

That number is still much higher than what the CDC wants to see, but it’s still a change in the right direction. “What that means is that water is flowing out faster than it is flowing in, and we are actually in the decline of this wave,” said Dr. Unnasch.

He has proven that one of the reasons this variant was able to spread so effectively is that it is a much milder symptom than the previous variant, and people are wondering if they are infected. Said that it was difficult to know. “You’re not going to change your activity at all, are you? You’re going out. You’re going to the movies. You’re going to the restaurant. You’re going to work. You’re going to work. I’m going to a church. “

Dr. Unnasch said it is important to keep wearing masks, especially indoors in public areas, but not all masks are made the same. “There have been masks of varying efficiency all along. Cloth masks probably blocked 50% to 60% aerosol participles,” said Dr. Unnasch.

He recommends KN95 and N95 masks. Because these masks block about 95% of these particles. It is now more important to block as many participles as possible because of how contagious the Omicron variants are. “This is similar to three to four times more infectious than the original version of this virus,” said Dr. Unnasch.

As for what the future holds, Dr. Unnasch said he will live with Covid’s reality for the foreseeable future. “Unfortunately, I think there are still some varieties that will become apparent over time,” he said, but he believes they will eventually mutate until they have a common cold.
