The weekend was quieter than the 2019 weekend, when three Cocoa High graduates were drafted in the first four rounds of the NFL draft, but this time there was still product activity in Brevard County.
Trenikson And Fabian Hawkins Both have found a starting point for a successful NFL career.
Originally from Vierahai, Nixon was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round. First astronauts, then Cocoa Hawkins, signed as Falcons and free agents.
Those 2019 Recommendations — Javan Taylor To the jug Jamel Dean With Bucs Chansey Gardner-Johnson To the saints — each influenced their team. Dean even has a Super Bowl ring.

This year’s prominent Breverd NFL rookie has had a huge impact on high school programs. It’s no coincidence that Nixon’s senior season was the year VIERA entered the state championship game. He was the 2015 Florida Today Offensive Football Player of the Year.

If you’re a Brevers football fan, you may remember Gardner and Nixon, who played a thrilling match in Cocoa many years ago. Perhaps you remember they were in the adjacent lane for the 100-meter title at the Cape Coast Conference.
Had Reggie Nelson spent another year in the league, Brevard would have had enough of the entire secondary: Gardner Johnson, Dean, Nelson, Marcus Maye and Jets.
Hawkins gives us something we rarely see. It is a running back at the highest level. To be honest, when he went to Louisville, my expectations for him weren’t high because of his size.
The Cardinals weight staff handled it. The Hawkins ACC starter didn’t physically resemble a cocoa player, at least in my eyes. His success was the pride of our region.
Our own sports editor, Tim Walters, points out that the Falcons have a history of successful small running backs. Devonta Freeman was 5 feet 8 and was a fantasy football monster during the Atlanta season. Jaquizz Rogers was 5-7 years old and spent four seasons there.
Like Ito Smith, Hawkins is currently listed 5-9, but his NFL draft profile says 5-8.
Nevertheless, he set a record for Louisville in the 1,525-yard rush in 2019, when he was the second team All-ACC. He opted out during the 2020 season.
Oh, he was the 2017 Florida Today Offense Player of the Year. In the second year, he led the Tigers to the state finals in 4A.
What I remember best about Nixon was a close family. It was clear that he wrote about him during his senior season. The Devin brothers had already been to West Kentucky, but moms had a lot of stories about them growing up together.
But the story that got stuck was what Tre told. The Hawks were a great stadium you might have seen in the picture, playing in Allen, Texas, one of the highest ranked teams in the United States at the time.
Nixon said he wasn’t nervous before the match, which is unusual for him. He was excited about the importance of the game and playing on the “big stage”.
Maybe that’s a good sign. The stage these young men are heading to is the biggest they have ever seen. I hope they shine.
