Wink news

Two boaters from the Tampa area were rescued off the coast of Collier County on Sunday morning.

According to Naples Fire-Rescue, the report arrived at 6:26 am on a capsized sailing vessel about four and a half miles from the Gordon Pass.

The two on the boat wore an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB).

After being contacted by the Coast Guard, Fireboat 1 and Fireboat 50 with Marco Fire-Rescue responded. The Key West Express first appeared, and shortly after, Fireboat 1 arrived, pulling them away from the sailboat. Neither was injured. They were returned to Fire Department 1 to take a shower and warm up.

According to Naples Fire-Rescue, the boat rider was heading to the Keys area where his family was camping. The IAFF and FOP union in Naples arranged hotel rooms and meals until the family was contacted.
