Two people died, including a 7-year-old boy, after boarding a boat with a family capsized on the Hudson River

New York (WABC)-Two people, including a seven-year-old boy, died after a boat carrying about 12 people who capsized on the Hudson River on Tuesday.

According to the FDNY, the maritime and land units responded shortly after 2:45 pm to West 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan and the Hudson River at Pier 84.

Police believe the family chartered a Yamaha boat from New Jersey to the New York side, and the boat owner was chasing behind him on a jet ski. They were by Intrepid when the boat turned over.

Officials say a 7-year-old boy and a 47-year-old woman were killed after being trapped under a boat.

“Whenever you’re obviously a kid, it may change your emotional state, but you only do what you have to do, and you’re here for this. That’s what we’re doing at, “said FDNY firefighter Ryan Warnock.

Warnock found a seven-year-old boy and rescue workers tried everything, but by the time he arrived at the hospital, it was too late for a woman who was also trapped.

But without the prompt response of the New York Ferry Service that happened to pass by at that moment, the consequences of the boat tragedy could have been much worse.

In a statement, NY Waterway ferry operators said the two ferries responded. The crew rescued nine people on the boat.

An employee of NY Waterway Ferry said, “I kicked in and did what I had to do. I put on my life jacket, flipped the boat, flipped the adjacent cradle, and started pulling out passengers.” ..

The ferry was boarded by some of the exact same crew members who rescued passengers from US Airways Flight 1549, also known as the “Hudson Miracle,” which crash landed on the Hudson River more than a decade ago.

Police were uncertain about the exact number of victims involved in the accident.

Of those rescued, five victims were taken to western Sinai. There, one victim is in crisis and the rest are in a stable condition.

The victim of the crisis is an 84-year-old man.

Three of the four victims of the stable western Sinai are a 32-year-old woman, a 51-year-old woman, and a 24-year-old man.

In addition, nine people were treated in the field and refused further treatment.

Victims are between 7 and 84 years old.

“This is a devastating moment for them and those who are part of the family there, and as New Yorkers our hearts disappear,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Witnesses saw the incident unfold on one of those ferries.

“We got on the boat ferry, saw the capsized boat, and everyone was screaming on the boat, so the ferry stopped, they threw life jackets, and then we pulled them up one by one. “Masou said.

Divers lifted a boat from the Hudson River on Monday night.

Police have vowed to investigate extensively. They say it’s too early to know what went wrong.

“Because we had the current wind, we were able to get tracks from different directions and waves from different directions,” said NYPD port inspector Anthony Russo. “The Hudson River is always a dangerous place.”
