Winter weather forecast: Flight delays and cancellations continue

New York (WABC) — Thousands of travelers stranded at airports were trying to reach their destinations on Christmas Eve after major storms disrupted air travel in the United States and Canada ahead of the holidays.

According to the flight tracking site flight readythere were 5,723 flight cancellations and 17,836 delays on Saturday. Airports most affected: Seattle, Detroit, Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver

For the most part, things seem to have improved at airports around New York City. Gate holds and taxi delays of up to 15 minutes occurred at Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK airports.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said Saturday that the Buffalo Niagara International Airport will be closed until Monday morning.
