“I don’t know who deleted Gabby’s Instagram account,” a family lawyer told Eyewitness News reporter Christine Thorne. “I contacted Instagram and the FBI to let them know that it was removed.”
Petit, who lives in Florida but is from Blue Point, traveled across the country to Oregon with Laundry when he stopped communicating with friends and family.
Her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said her last video chat with her daughter was August 24th or 25th, but they exchanged text messages for the next few days.
Since then, she says she doesn’t know if her daughter actually sent those texts.
“We don’t eat or sleep, we’re just actively looking for her,” she said.
Prior to the final communication, Petit is believed to have been in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.she Reported missing I was sent by my family to the Suffolk County Police Station around 6:55 pm on September 11.
Police in Moab, Utah, responded to a “case involving Brian Laundry and Gabriel Petit” on August 12, but Secretary Brett Edge said there was insufficient evidence of the indictment.
“Neither Brian nor Gabriel was the reporter,” he said. “Executives conducted an investigation and determined that there was insufficient evidence to justify the criminal accusation.”
The van was recovered at a couple’s house in Northport, Florida, and Laundry apparently drove back on his own.
Laundrie’s lawyer, Steve Bertolino, issued a statement on Tuesday on behalf of the client.
“This is a very difficult time for both the Petite and Laundry families,” he said. “I understand that the search for Miss Petite was conducted in or near Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. On behalf of the Laundry family, the search for Miss Petite was successful and Miss Petite was reunited. Hope. Her family. With the advice of the counsel, the Laundry family is in the background at this point and there is no further comment. “
Petito’s family issued the following brief statement in response, saying Laundrie was interfering with the search effort. “
“The Schmidt and Petit families are experiencing the worst moments of their lives,” the statement read. “Their beautiful 22-year-old daughter is missing and one who can help find Gabby refuses to help. Brian Laundry was traveling with Gabby in the Grand Teton-Yellowstone area. They were traveling together in Gabby’s 2012 Ford Transit Van. Brian refuses to tell his family where Gabby last saw. Also, Brian leaves Gabby alone. He also refuses to explain why he drove the van to Florida. These are important questions that need immediate answers. Schmidt and Petit’s family “stay in the background” to the Coin Laundry family. Instead, ask Brian to help him find the person he called the love of his life. Schmidt and Petit’s family begs Brian to come forward and at least tell us if we are looking for the right area. “
The couple recorded their trip on YouTube and were scheduled to arrive in Portland in October.
“We were excited about them,” Schmidt said. “I think she’s at risk because she’s out of contact with us. She could be alone somewhere. She could be stuck somewhere in the wilderness. I need help. “
Petito is described as a white woman about 5 feet-5 pounds and 110 pounds.
She has blonde hair, blue eyes, and some tattoos. One is on the finger and the other is on the forearm with “Let it be” written on it.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about Petit’s disappearance to contact the crime stopper at 1-800-220-TIPS. Northport Police are actively supporting the case and can contact 941-429-7382. “
In addition, the FBI Tampa Field Office is supporting this study.Tips can also be called to or sent to 1-800-CALL-FBI Tips.FBI.gov..
