What’s New in COVID New York City: A confrontation over vaccination obligations for teachers and school workers is imminent

New York City (WABC)-Authorities dispute in court over vaccination obligations for New York City school staff.

In New York City, all public school teachers and employees were to be vaccinated at least once by Monday.

But the court Gave a temporary injunctionThis means that the city cannot enforce the rules until a committee of three judges decides whether such a city’s mission is constitutional. It will be contested on Wednesday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “We expect a full vaccine requirement as early as the end of this week, but of course we will go through a full court process.”

The mayor said progress had been made to vaccinate more members of the Ministry of Education, saying that an additional 7,000 employees were vaccinated on Friday and Saturday.

As of Monday, 87% of all employees in the New York City Department of Education have been vaccinated with the COVID vaccine at least once.

90% of New York City public school teachers and 97% of principals are vaccinated. Mayor De Blasio said the U.S. Teachers’ Federation is actually numerous and reports are still ongoing, as 97% of teachers and associates are vaccinated, according to the UFT. ..

“For parents and children, this should be a real reassurance to make sure the numbers are already very high. It’s great about our ability to have a secure school system and keep everything running. Says Mayor De Blasio.

After the mandate came into effect, if no sufficient alternative was found, the mandate warned of fear of a shortage of teachers.

The union on behalf of teachers and principals still urges Mayor De Blasio to postpone the deadline.

“I’m not an anti-baxer. Like many teachers, I’m an anti-delegation. The complaint we allege is that forcing this vaccination on your body is constitutional under equality. It is a violation under the protection and due process clauses. “

About 10,000 teachers remain unvaccinated.
