Wildlife authorities are looking for two men seen in a video chasing a moose in a pickup truck in Idaho.

A video of the pursuit emerged online Monday, June 5, and quickly gained attention. It was filmed from the Coeur d’Alene River and shows the moose racing down Old River Road in Kingston as the truck charges after it with its engine revving. The truck bed was filled with stacked logs.

“Dude, what are they doing?” one kayaker asked in the video.

[–>

“If you know who the owner and driver of this vehicle is, I’m sure Idaho Fish and Game Panhandle Region would like to talk to him,” the caption on the video says, adding that the chase was filmed at about 2 p.m.

Officials with the Panhandle Region’s Fish and Game office are investigating, a spokesperson told McClatchy News.

[–>

“We are looking into it,” TJ Ross said in a phone interview. “We don’t know all the details of what transpired, but regardless it’s a reminder to folks that harassing wildlife with a vehicle is against the law.”

[–>

Thousands of people shared thoughts on the video. One called it “heartless.”

[–>

“That’s what happens when you let the forest be a…play ground to people that don’t care,” someone said.

[–>

“Hard to watch really,” someone else agreed. “Zero appreciation for beauty.”

[–>

“Shame on him for torturing and scaring that poor thing like that!” another person said.

[–>

Some wondered if the moose might be pregnant or might have a newborn calf.

[–>

KHQ spoke with the man who filmed the video. He told the station he pointed the camera toward the road when he heard someone laying on the horn.

[–>

“You want to give them their space, especially this time of the year when they have newborns and babies to take care of,” he said. “We need to show some respect for these beautiful creatures and be respectful citizens of the outdoors.”

Kingston is about 390 miles north of Boise.
