a florida Lawmakers say they are open to changing the bill that got people barking to ban dogs sticking their heads out of car windows.
Democratic leader of the Florida Senate, Lauren Book, proposed the restrictions in the bill. SB932, was submitted last week. The measure makes it illegal to “allow a dog to stretch its head or other body part out of a car window while a person is driving on a public road.”
It is also illegal to have a dog on your lap while driving, and dogs must be restrained during transport.
Anyone who violates these provisions will be subject to a non-criminal traffic violation, the bill states.
But on Thursday, Book said in a statement that it would consider amending the bill.
“Our family has three dogs. Two of them are about 175 pounds each and love to stick their heads out of windows. We welcome and appreciate all public comments on this issue.” It’s a system brought to me by veterinarians and advocates,” she said. According to WTSP.
“We could easily amend this part of the bill while protecting the animal welfare community and the intent of the veterinarians who proposed the policy for unintentional injuries we treated. In the meantime, invest in a good pair of “dogs” to keep your furry friend safe.
Currently, the bill prohibits removing cat claws except for medical necessity and prohibits cosmetic testing on animals.
To become law, the bill must pass both houses of Congress and be signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
