Hoboken, NJ (WABC) — Officials are working Wednesday to repair multiple broken water mains that affected multiple roads in Hoboken.
Veolia Water, which is responsible for supplying water to the area, said its crew had three water mains, one from 7th to 5th Avenue near Grand Street and the other from Clinton Street to Adams Street on 6th Avenue. He said he was prepared for a blocked pipe.
All three water pipe breaks occurred at about the same time that firefighters were fighting the fire several blocks away and opening hydrants.
It is not clear if there is any connection between the fire and the broken water main.
Veolia Water said in a tweet that “services may be interrupted for residents in the vicinity while repairs are being carried out”.
With repairs to the water mains underway, the company said workers were towing a vehicle from Sixth Avenue between Adams and Grand to the site at 13th and Jefferson Streets.
There is currently no estimated arrival date for repairs.
The company said it would provide updates to residents as repairs progressed and services were restored.
Meanwhile, the Hoboken Crisis Management Authority said a water station had been set up on 6th Street between Grand and Clinton Streets for affected residents.
Residents are confident this will not be the last water outage.
“During my time living here, there have been several broken water pipes and collapsed infrastructure. It’s kind of a reality in Hoboken,” said resident Jonah Kimmelstill. “Living in Hoboken is very expensive and everyone needs water. We need it every day. You shouldn’t.”
