Byron Donald named Speaker of the House amid rivalry over Kevin McCarthy

Washington

The House is still trying to vote for the House Speaker for the next legislative session. No decision was made, and the House voted to adjourn until Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Republicans took control of the House this week. Despite having weeks to decide on a new House leader, Republicans can’t get it done.

Inside the chamber of the House of Representatives, lawmakers were crammed into the walls.

For the first time in a century, no candidate for Speaker of the House won the gavel on the first or second ballot.

“Hold on guys. Look around. I know people are getting frustrated,” said a delegate who was in the poll.

Democrats want Congressional leader Hakeem Jeffries to become chairman, but Republicans have a majority. Republicans cannot decide who will lead them.

Naples Congressman Byron Donalds

Naples Congressman Byron Donalds cast his first two votes for Congressman Kevin McCarthy. After that, he was the first person to change his vote from McCarthy to Jim His Jordan on his third ballot.

Donald changed his vote again Wednesday when Chip Roy of Texas said, “Today I stand up to nominate Byron Donald as Speaker of the House.”

Donald then voted for himself. After failing to produce a new speaker in Round 5, Donalds told his CBS News: Do by their voters. That’s good for Congress. Good for Washington. That’s great for America. ”

Political scientist Aubrey Jewett said lawmakers wouldn’t get to work without a gavel in hand.

“They, the Republicans, are under pressure to actually elect the chairman because they have the majority, so they are thought to control the chairmanship. They’re supposed to control the committee and control the legislative flow, but they can’t do anything until they actually elect a chair,” Jewett said.

The Donalds will reluctantly serve if selected as a speaker in Round 6 and beyond.
