Kingsland, Georgia – A man’s body was found Thursday afternoon on Gilligan’s Island off Highway 40 in Georgia, police said.
The St Mary Police Department said the body was located about 150 meters from the main coastline. Firefighters were called and the man was pronounced dead.
Ashley Clarke said she regularly visits the area to check on homeless people setting up camps. She also found a body and called 911.
Ms Clark said the homeless people told her that the bodies had been “tied up, beaten to a pulp and thrown into water to drown”. Authorities have not released information about the condition of the body or how the man died, but confirmed it as a homicide.
A homeless man said he told police he knew who the suspected murderer was because the victim and suspect had an “ongoing relationship.”
Authorities haven’t cited any suspicious information, but Clark said of him, “Quiet and polite. Really smart.”
“He was the cool type of guy. He tried to hide himself,” said the homeless man.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, collected evidence at the scene. The SMPD will not release the man’s identity until his next of kin are contacted.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to help investigate the murder.
