Volunteers Needed for the United Way ReadingPals Program

Lee County

The United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades is recruiting volunteers for the United Way ReadingPals program to read to 12 schools in Lee County for PreK through 2nd grade.

According to a United Way press release, ReadingPals provides volunteers with the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with young children while supporting their social-emotional development and early literacy skills.

This program provides mentors who positively influence a student’s understanding of the basic building blocks of reading.

Children who can read aloud are more likely to be good readers. A child who reads at grade level by grade three is four times more likely to graduate from high school.

Volunteers commit one hour per week on weekdays and throughout the school year.

A short training provides all the necessary tools and materials.

Bonita Springs Elementary School, Colonial Elementary School, Edgewood Academy, Franklin Park Elementary School, J.
