A 62-year-old Port Charlotte woman won a $1 million prize in Thursday’s scratch game.
Karen Dowling chose to receive her prize in a lump sum of $820,000, according to a Florida Lottery press release.
Dowling purchased tickets from Publix, 24051 Peachland Blvd., Port Charlotte. The retailer receives a bonus commission of $2,000 for ticket sales.
The $50 game, 500X THE CASH, has a top prize of $25 million, the highest ever offered in a Florida scratch-off game. The overall game win rate is 1 in 4.50.
Scratch-off games are an important part of the lottery’s game portfolio, accounting for approximately 77% of ticket sales in 2021-2022. Since its inception, the scratch-off game has brought in more than $17.06 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
