At least one person has died and several others have been rescued after a massive fire broke out in Yonkers’ apartment.8 firefighters injured

Yonkers, NY — At least one person has died and several others have been rescued after a massive fire broke out in Yonkers’ apartment.
Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, flames began to rise from the roof of the Mona Lisa Cooperative Residences on Bronx River Road.
The fire started on the ground floor but continues to burn to the top floors of this multi-story building.
Officials said several civilians and firefighters were hospitalized or receiving treatment, and eight firefighters had minor injuries.
Firefighters also helped people stay safe by escaping through fire escapes.
One resident said he saw firefighters lower a baby down the fire escape. He said she wasn’t wearing shoes.
The fire chief says the building’s location on a slope makes it difficult for the crew to put out the fire. He also says the cold weather makes things difficult.
It is an apartment with a total of 95 households.
