Crime in New York City: Police search for three who destroyed concrete angels at Queen’s Church
Hillcrest, Queens (WABC) — Police are trying to find the three men who destroyed the concrete angel in a Queens church.
Security cameras caught the teenage suspect outside the Holy Family Church near Utopia Parkway late Thursday night.
Two teenagers were seen lifting the angel over the fence. One kidnapped the statue and a third was filming it with a cell phone. He rolled it up and threw it to the ground, breaking the angel’s wings.
“Something holy, blessed mother, angels, I do not understand it,” said parishioner Richard Mulli.
The angel statue was photographed in front of many cameras and was very close to the Jesus statue.
Parishioners say the angel was special to them and to the previous pastor.
“Oh, he’ll be heartbroken because those were his collections,” said a parishioner named Sonia.
The church said the suspect certainly needed some guidance after vandalizing the $500 statue.
The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is assisting with the investigation.
