Severe US weather: Southwest endures triple-digit temperatures as Chicago deals with tornado aftermath – Live | Extreme Weather

Montpelierthe capital of Vermont, began to clean up after the flood. Here is an update from my colleague Edward Helmore On the ground:

As wet furniture piles up on sidewalks and the hum of post-disaster pumps and generators fills the air, we begin to think about the unforgiving nature of extreme weather that climate change has made more frequent, more intense and unpredictable. There were people too.

The town is a liberal enclave of Vermont, dotted with health food stores, book and clothing stores, Subarus, and bicycles, and mostly residents of what some parts of America call an alternative, climate-conscious city. It has the characteristics of a quiet life.

“This is very typical,” says regenerative farmer Yay Margison. “The smoke here is not from the fires, and the strange weather is not from here, nor is it from here. Ironically, that is the reality.”

If Montpelier has a message for the world, it’s what your toxic lifestyle is doing to others. It’s the effect of making money. This is capitalism.”

There were no direct reports of injuries, but the storm forced authorities to cancel all flights arriving at O’Hare and Midway airports, the FAA reported.

More than 300 flights to and from O’Hare and more than 32 flights to and from Midway have been canceled and hundreds have fled to O’Hare, according to FlightAware.

Lynn Becker, a longtime Chicago resident, posted: video He posted it on Twitter with sirens blaring across the city skyline.

“I live in a 60-story apartment complex, so my options are somewhat limited,” he said. “I think we have to go into the center of the building.

“When you’re looking at a TV screen and it’s all red, there’s a kind of panic … but I hope the damage is minimal,” he said.
