Dhaka – A massive fire broke out in a popular cheap clothing market in the Bangladesh capital on Tuesday morning.
A fire broke out at Dhaka’s Banga Bazar market at 6:10 a.m., but no casualties were immediately reported, Rafi Al-Falk told The Associated Press by phone.
He said 47 units of firefighters are working to put out the massive blaze.
“There are no immediate reports of casualties,” he said.
Another fire official, Anwarul Islam, said he did not know how the fire started.
Fires are common in Bangladesh’s commercial establishments due to lax surveillance and poor fire protection. But the country’s garment industry, which has suffered devastating fires in the past, has improved significantly over the past decade.
