Florida-based Hertz to order up to 175,000 Gm electric vehicles over next five years

Cape Coral, Fla. — Hertz plans to order up to 175,000 electric vehicles from General Motors over the next five years.

The deal, announced Tuesday, includes deliveries of electric vehicles through 2027 and includes Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac and Bright Drop SUVs, pickups and luxury vehicles. Expected deliveries of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are set to begin in the first quarter of next year.

Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr said in a prepared statement, “We are delighted to partner with GM on this initiative. EV offerings to customers will be dramatically expanded.

Hertz’s current goal is to have a quarter of its vehicles electric by the end of 2024.

GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra believes the partnership will help create new customers for electric vehicles.

“With the vehicle selection, technology and mileage we offer, we are confident that each rental experience will further drive consideration for our products and drive growth for our company,” she said.

GM said last year it plans to go all-electric by 2035.
