Florida minority leaders seek common ground with Republican supermajority

Republicans have overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress, but Democrats are looking for ways to stay relevant.
Republicans will have easier ways to approve bills, change the rules of the floor, or use their powers to override vetoes from the governor.
Senate Minority Leader Lauren Book said, “At the end of the day, only we are everything. We are one for all, for all. We have to get better.” We have to get stronger. We have to be tougher.”

“We’ve all been talking about property insurance, affordability, affordable housing, and worker housing.” increase.”
There are many objections. This year, Republicans pushed through new laws regulating sex and race education, controversial immigration reforms, and a 15-week abortion ban. After the success of election night, some GOP members feel encouraged to go further as they return to the 2023 session.
“It’s an obligation that they like what we’re doing here in Florida,” said R-Spring Hill Senator Blaise Ingoglia earlier this month. “There’s a reason people are moving to this state in droves.”
Further abortion restrictions remain a major concern of minority political parties. Democrats have vowed to oppose any proposal. report of Republicans consider a 12-week ban.
Fentris Driskel, incoming House Minority Leader, hoped that the national political headwinds on abortion would help her party.
“There were five states in this country that voted for abortion,” she said. “Even Kentucky, which is much redder than Florida, voted to protect. Even the people of Kentucky did. So I think[Governor Ron]DeSantis has cornered himself.”
Floridians will get a preview of how this new group of lawmakers will work together in the coming weeks. The member will be back next month, possibly he the week of December 12, for a special session on property insurance.
