Florida police arrest man in Memorial Day beach shooting, search for two others

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Florida state police arrested a man Saturday and two others believed to be the shooter who wounded nine people while opening fire along a crowded beachfront promenade on Memorial Day. issued an arrest warrant.

Hollywood Police have announced that authorities have arrested Jordan Burton and are searching for Ariel Kardern-Paul and Lionel Jean-Charles Jr.

The suspects will be charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, eight counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of concealed possession of a firearm, police said in a news release.

It’s not immediately clear if Burton has hired a lawyer

Police said two other men, allegedly involved in the altercation that led to the shooting, had already been arrested on firearms charges.

Police and witnesses said the shooting began when a mob fought in front of a busy shopping street on the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk. On a busy vacation weekend, bystanders desperately evacuated as gunfire rang out on a beach just south of Fort Lauderdale.

Seven of the nine people injured in the shooting have been discharged from the hospital, police said. The other two are still recovering in hospital.
