High school graduation rates have fallen 3% in the past year, according to the state
Although the high school graduation rate dropped nearly 3% last year, the Florida Department of Education says the graduation rate is still higher than pre-pandemic rates.
Duval County School District 2022 Graduation at about the same rate as their pre-pandemic peers.
The 2022 class is the first class to graduate using the same criteria as before the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, the year before the pandemic, Duval County’s graduation rate was 86.5%. 85.6% graduation rate in 2022
Although the rates are close, Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Diana Green said more needs to be done.
“We can’t be happier with the results,” Green said. “Now that we have returned to normal school operations, the efforts we have made to retain our students through the pandemic, and our recent efforts to help them make up for lost learning time, will be evident in the long term. I am confident it will.”
Looking at other counties in Florida, in St. Johns County, the 2022 class graduation rate dropped from 95% in 2021 to 93.3%.
Clay County had an 89.9% graduation rate for seniors in 2022. Down from 92.7% in 2021.
In Nassau County, the 2022 graduation rate was 93.3%. Matches the 2021 rate almost exactly.
Looking back at Duval County, the school district wanted to share that the overall graduation rate of 85.6% has increased by more than 13% over the past decade.
