Tel Aviv – The Israeli military on Thursday killed three wanted Palestinians in connection with a deadly attack against Israelis, the Israeli military said.
A military statement said the troops entered the disputed center of Nablus in the early hours of the morning and stormed the men’s apartments. Three people were killed in a shootout between troops and suspects.
The military has accused men of being behind a car attack last month near a Jewish West Bank settlement that killed a British-Israeli mother and her two daughters. His two men, identified as Hassan Katnani and Maed Mitsri, said they were members of a Hamas extremist group. His third man killed, Ibrahim Hula, is described as a senior operative who assisted the other suspects.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said three people had been killed in the fighting, but could not immediately identify them.
The violence in Nablus occurred at a particularly sensitive time in the region. It comes just days after a prominent Palestinian prisoner, who had staged a lengthy hunger strike over his custody, died in Israeli custody. His death triggered a volley of rockets from militants in Gaza and an airstrike on a coastal enclave that killed one man.
The fatal attack on an Israeli car last month shocked Israelis. Because the members of the Dee family have been reduced from his seven to his four. Hundreds of people flocked to the funeral, and the family’s father, Leo, repeatedly appeared in the Israeli media, stating that he harbored no hatred for his family’s killer, leading to national unity amid deep social rifts. is seeking
Israel has been carrying out nearly nightly arresting raids on West Bank villages, towns and cities for more than a year in an operation prompted by last year’s wave of Palestinian attacks against Israelis. It is intended to dismantle the sect network and thwart future attacks. The Palestinians see the attack as a further consolidation of Israel’s 56-year unrestricted land occupation that they seek for a future independent state.
The raids were hit by a surge in Palestinian attacks.
About 250 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli fires since the raids began. Israel says it was mostly combatants, but stone-throwing youths and people not involved in the conflict were also killed.
Meanwhile, nearly 50 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks on Israel.
