miami beach, florida – Vice President Kamala Harris discussed environmental policy on Wednesday. Aspen Ideas: Climate Conference at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Gloria Estefan moderated the discussion, and Harris focused on the actions she and President Joe Biden have taken to address climate change.
“I’m excited about electric vehicles, especially electric school buses,” Harris said of the government’s support for clean energy.
Estefan said Miami-Dade County residents care deeply about Biscayne Bay and the Florida Everglades.
“We have a very deep responsibility,” Estefan said before asking Harris to talk about water policy.
Harris said the policy could create jobs by building new infrastructure in coastal areas. She said the Biden administration has done a lot to get rid of lead pipe.
“Drinking that toxic water is affecting a child’s ability to learn,” Harris said.

The plenary also included Florida’s Miccosukee president Talbert Cypress, who discussed the Everglades, and former Colombian president Ivan Duque, who focused on the Amazon rainforest.
“Protecting the Amazon is not just a Latin American priority, it is a global priority, and we need to make available the massive capital mobilization required for this,” Duque said. .
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniela Levine Kaba also joined the debate Wednesday morning about women who are dedicated to protecting the environment.
