Newcastle, New York (WABC) — At least nine people were injured when a school bus collided head-on with a car in Newcastle on Wednesday afternoon.
The collision occurred on Lake Road near Crow Hill Road.
The speed limit is 30 mph because it’s rural and the roads are windy and narrow.
Investigators have preliminarily determined that an unlicensed 16-year-old boy was driving a Honda Accord with three passengers and heading south on Lake Road, Newcastle Police said.
The driver lost control while rounding a curve and crossed the oncoming lane and collided with the bus.
At least nine people were injured and taken to Westchester Medical Center.
All four people in the vehicle are said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
A Yorktown Central school bus had children on board at the time of the crash.
Everyone on the bus was taken to a medical center, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
Eyewitness News has reached out to the school district for comment, but has not yet received a response.
Investigation is ongoing.
