Memorial Day: Mayor Adams and New York City residents attend event honoring those who fought for America
New York (WABC) — Memorial Day is a holiday for some, but it is a day to remember those who died for our country.
As Fleet Week came to an end, Mayor Adams attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on Monday morning.
He then attended a ceremony at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial on Riverside Drive.
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton joined Westchester County veterans and residents in the annual Chappaqua Parade on Memorial Day.
The day also marks the unofficial start of summer, with some beachgoers kicking off Coney Island events over the weekend.
Video from Coney Island shows crowds trickling in to enjoy the weather. Even if you don’t like the beach, the rides are always fun.
One beachgoer said, “I mainly come here for the rides, but it’s very hot and there are a lot of people. I’d rather come here to have fun.” “Great weather, baby’s first day on the beach, Memorial Day weekend, there’s nothing better than the sun.”
Whether it’s a trip to the beach or a parade or ceremony, get outside and enjoy this beautiful day.
Despite the strong winds, Long Island didn’t stop the beachgoers. Chantee Lans is full of information about Jones Beach.
Dangerous rip currents were a concern, but many descended to the Jersey Shore.
