Troopers close Broward turnpike after a series of crashes involving seven cars, box trucks
Davie, Florida – A fatal multiple-vehicle collision that the Florida Highway Patrol was investigating led to the closure of some north-facing lanes on the Broward County Turnpike after three incidents Wednesday.
Troopers closed the turnpike from Interstate 595 to Sunrise Boulevard around 5 a.m., FHP said.
The body of a black sport utility vehicle was covered with a yellow plastic sheet. The crashed sedan lost the top. The box truck flipped over on the driver’s side, leaving a long diagonal burn scar on the road.
FHP said the first collision involved three vehicles with passengers, the second involved an overturned truck and a vehicle with passengers, and the third involved three other vehicles with passengers.
Firefighters responded and helped the driver and passengers. Over five hours later, the troopers continued their investigation.
Detectives wanted anyone with information about the incident to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
This is a developing story.
